Francisco Gómez Reyes Scholarships

After 14 years and more than 420 students, Grupo Alfil awards a new round of its academic and athletic merit scholarships

  • The family-owned company has brought together the recipients of the 30 housing scholarships at the Teatinos campus (Málaga), each worth up to 1,800 euros.

  • The philosophy behind this call for entries is based on the premise of fostering a culture of hard work, perseverance, and excellence.

Marbella, September 7, 2026. Alfil Group (Alfil Patrimonial SOCIMI) held the official award ceremony for the Francisco Gómez Reyes Scholarships to the 30 students selected for their outstanding academic and athletic achievements. The event took place in the conference room of the Hotel Baviera and brought together the scholarship recipients and their families.

In this round, the majority of the scholarships were awarded based on academic merit (29), while the remainder were granted for athletic achievement. These grants were established to help offset the cost of housing in Málaga for students registered as residents of Marbella. With amounts of up to 1,800 euros, recipients receive a discount on their housing fees at the Alfil University Residence Hall, located on the Teatinos university campus.

The scholarships are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility program of Alfil Group and carry on the legacy of its founder, Mr. Francisco Gómez Reyes, who was personally committed to establishing support mechanisms for students who lacked sufficient resources. “He was a man who, at the age of eleven, had his chance to study taken away by the Civil War, but his thirst for knowledge and learning always remained intact. A few years after the University Residence Hall opened, he proposed creating these scholarships and was very clear that they would be awarded only to those who worked hard,” recalls Grupo Alfil’s President and CEO, Francisco Gómez Palma.

In his remarks, Gómez emphasized the scholarships’ inherent commitment to the talent of those who will be “the leaders of tomorrow,” to whom he addressed a message regarding their time at the university. “This is probably the most wonderful stage of your lives, and this message about discipline should in no way prevent you from enjoying it. Study, yes, but when it’s time to go out and make friends, make the most of it.”

Finally, the CEO highlighted Grupo Alfil’s track record as an example of the achievements attained through perseverance and hard work. The businessman recalled the company’s nearly 74-year history, noting that it has achieved the milestone of being the first in Spain to be listed on the BME Scaleup segment and that, “far from stagnating, it continues to strive daily to improve and reach new goals, as evidenced by its imminent expansion into Madrid.”

The group photo taken with the scholarship recipients for the 2026–27 academic year adds to the album of a scholarship program that, together with the discount program for Marbella residents, has benefited more than 700 students, with an estimated investment of over one million euros.
